A lot of businesses give away things for free. But how does this help them make money? Well, you are probably smart enough to realize that they don’t just do this to be nice. They are doing this as a way to eventually make you a customer.

They understand that people by from businesses that they know, like, and trust, thus giving away a free sample is a great way to build that relationship.


What should you give away?
One big mistake that a lot of people make is that they save their best content for their products and they give away their “crap”. Well, if you were to take a sample of someone’s mediocre product, what would you think of their paid product? Would you expect it to be the same? Most likely.

That’s why you want to put your best foot forward and give away your best stuff.

Can you give away too much?
You should give away your good stuff, but you can still hold a bit back. A way to do this is to give away a basic version of your product for free, but then allowing your customers to upgrade for the “Deluxe” version that will make their lives easier. This will bring a lot of potential customers into your world and give you the opportunity to make a lot of sales.


The psychology of reciprocity
Have you ever noticed that when someone does something for you that YOU also feel like you should do something for them? This is psychology of reciprocity, and marketers use it all the time. Whenever you’re wandering around the grocery store there are usually areas setup where they give you free samples. Sure, you’ll take one, but don’t you feel a little bit bad about not buying it?

If you’re like me, you’ll at least consider buying it, which is more attention than you would normally have given the product if you hadn’t been given a free taste.
What can you give away?
You might think that you don’t have anything of value to give away. Don’t worry, it’s a common thought, but it’s nothing further from the truth.


All you need to do is create a simple report that provides a bit of value to your subscribers.

This is a perfect way to entice people to join your email list, and it will also serve as a way of building a relationship with them. You need to make yourself stand out from the pack, and if you can get your subscribers consuming your free content then you’re well on your way to success.
